How Are Korean Words Formed?

Korean words are made by combining consonants and vowels together.

When you put a consonant and a vowel together they will become a character/syllable.
For example:
1. ㅍ+ㅗ= 포 and ㄷ+ㅗ= 도 so 포+도= 포도 pronounce as "podo" which means grapes...
2. ㅂ+ㅏ= 바, ㄷ+ㅏ= 다 so 바+다 = 바다 pronounce as 'bada' which means sea.

*모음 pronounce as 'mo-eum' means vowels

Getting To Know Hangeul

Do you love watching Korean Dramas?
Or are you a fan of a famous K-Pop star?
But you don't know any Korean?
Don't even know the Korean characters?
Well, you're in the right place. I'm gonna help you learn the Korean language.

First, I will help you learn Hangeul (한글).

What is Hangeul?
Hangeul is the writing system of Koreans, or should I say the "Korean alphabet".

What are the characteristics of Korean Language?

Korean/Hangeul has 19 consonants and 21 vowels.

1.Consonants
The basic Korean consonants are ㄱ, ㄴ, ㅁ, ㅅ, ㅇ.
The basic Korean consonants were created by referring to figures of our vocal organs.
ㄱ- is a figure of the tongue touching the back palate.
ㄴ- is a figure of the tongue touching the upper gums.
ㅁ- is a figure of an open mouth.
ㅅ- is a figure of the teeth.
ㅇ- is a figure of the throat.
Take a look at the figure below.

Other consonants are created by adding strokes to the basic consonants they are classified as Lax consonants, Aspirated consonants and Fortis consonants
Lax Aspirated Fortis
ㄱ ㅋ ㄲ
ㄷ ㅌ ㄸ
ㅂ ㅍ ㅃ
ㅅ ㅆ
ㅈ ㅊ ㅉ

2. Vowels
The basic vowels are formed by combining the figure of a round sky represented by a dot (.), a figure of a flattened earth represented by a horizontal line (ㅡ), and a figure of a standing man represented by a vertical line (ㅣ).
When the . + ㅣare combined they will become ㅏ and ㅓ
When the .+ ㅡ are combined they will become ㅗ and ㅜ
And if you add another . those characters ㅑ,ㅕ,ㅛ and ㅠ will be made.
Here's how .+. +ㅣ= ㅑ and ㅕ
. + . + ㅡ= ㅠ and ㅛ
And by adding another man (ㅣ) to ㅏ and ㅓ, ㅐand ㅔ will be made.
And by adding another man to ㅑ and ㅕ, ㅒ and ㅖ will be made.
And ㅗ + ㅏ = ㅘ, ㅗ+ㅐ=ㅙ, ㅜ+ㅓ= ㅝ, ㅜ+ㅔ=ㅞ, ㅜ+ㅣ=ㅟ, ㅗ+ㅣ=ㅚ, ㅡ+ㅣ=ㅢ
